The last decade has seen India become a front runner in the race to become a superpower. The stronghold is slowly and gradually shifting from the west to the east. India has witnessed so many various developments and advancements across all fields, whether economically or technologically. We have seen India crack major nuclear deals with giant superpowers like the United States of America, and our major metropolitan cities have seen a massive influx of construction, with the entire skyline being filled with sky scrapers. Every field has observed lots of progress and change, one such field is our automobile industry. The drastic transformation our automobile industry has witnessed is evident to all of us.
If you looked at our automobile industry in the 1990s, it was an entirely different scenario. There were a handful of cars to choose from and the only car manufacturers that had a fair share of the market were the local companies like Maruti Suzuki and Tata. The best Indian car at that time was probably the Maruti 800. Today its nothing of that sort, all the giant car manufacturers from across the world have launched their cars in the Indian market as they view the Indian market to have an immense amount of potential. Car manufacturers like Toyota, Volkswagen, Chevrolet and Honda are also competing with each other to gain a strong hold of the market. Other car companies who have entered the market are Hyundai, Renault and Skoda. This shows how important a market India is for these large companies. Even the most premium luxury car brands in the world like Aston Martin, Porsche, Jaguar, BMW and Audi have opened up their showrooms in the major metropolitan cities. If you had asked someone 10 years ago if they would ever be a Porsche showroom in India, you would probably get laughed at. However that dream has today become a reality. Every few days when you wake up and open to the first page of the newspaper, you see a large front page advertisement showcasing some new car that is launching soon. Even the launch of the Tata Nano last year made it the lowest price car in India.
However, in this fight for supremacy in the Indian market we can in no way rule out our local car manufacturers. Tata has been launching cars in quick succession, and Mahindra with their new XUV 500 have taken the market by storm. And also let’s not forget the most successful company ever to be in the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki. They have perfectly understood the Indian consumer and have made highly successful cars for years at end. They are known to make the best cars in India. And have always managed to make cars which perfectly suit the common man.
Maruti Suzuki is the leader of the Indian car market for over two and half decades manufacturing best cars in India.
